The Imbalance – The Creative v’s The Analytical

All too often we seem to be getting caught up in the data, whether measurement, analytics or some other data intensive project.

While the importance of data and measurement isn’t in question, I often wonder how balanced it is with the creative aspect of digital marketing.

Then, in the other corner of the ring we have the exact opposite, the creative with no or little thought for data and measurement.

Where is the happy medium? Is there one? Can we achieve it?

Finding The Balance

The right hand side of the brain is often referred to as the creative side, used more by designers and general creative types. Whereas the left hand side is more analytical, great for processing numbers and other data intensive tasks.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could find the perfect balance between data and creativity, unfortunately every individual is usually more biased to one side of the brain than the other.

I often find it difficult to come up with creative ideas, but find it much easier to process data. Pointing towards a more prominent left sided brain.

One of the best ways I’ve found to overcome this unbalance, is simply to push myself.

I’ve found by taking creative risks, trying things outside my comfort zone, it’s much easier to come up with new and fresh ideas.

Whether it’s a new blog post, a new way to market a product or an idea for a new online business project, the more time I spend outside my comfort zone the easier it becomes to come up with the ideas.

We have to remember that the brain is a muscle, may be more advanced that the other muscle’s in our bodies, but at the end of the day it still work’s in a similar manner. Exercise will improve its functionality, lack of exercise and you may see deterioration.

I believe that anyone can learn anything, all it takes is dedication, time and belief in yourself.

We become stronger, braver and hopefully more successful by bridging the gap between our creative and analytical sides.

To become truly successful on this cluttered digital world we need to stand out. Unless we try new things and push ourselves we will remain stagnant and go nowhere.
